May Overnight Camping Trip

Date and time:

• Start on Friday, May 8 at 4:00 PM

• End Sunday, May 10 at 12:00 PM

Check-in

• Arrive on Friday, May 8 between 4:00 PM and 9:00 PM

• OR arrive on Saturday before 8:00 AM

• Upon check-in you will receive your camp site assignment and we will verify that you have the following, insha'Allah:

  • Payment (pack dues plus $15/each additional camper,

  • Activity concent form for each registed scout,

  • Valid SYT certificate for each adult,

  • Health forms for everyone in your pary

Weather:

• We are closely monitoring the weather conditions in Gainesville.

• The camping trip is planned to proceed rain or shine.

• Please bring weather appropriate clothes such as raincoat, umbrella, hat, etc.

• If there is severe weather making the camping trip hazardous, we will cancel the trip.

Fee:

• For scouts who have already paid the "Pack Dues"/Activity fee and Registration fees there is no additional charge.

• For all others, such as parents or additional siblings, the fee is $15/person.

  • No payment is needed for children aged under 5 years old.

RSVP form - you must complete the RSVP form by April 14 so that we know how many people to prepare for (e.g., for food) - one per family

Food

• On Friday night, every family is responsible for their own dinner.

  • You are responsible for your own leftovers including safe storage away from wildlife.

  • We will not have a potlock, so please bring only food for your own family.

• On Saturday, breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be served, insha'Allah (included).

• On Sunday, breakfast will be served, insha'Allah (included).

Dress Code

• Friday you may come dressed in regular clothes

• Saturday scouts will be in class A uniform

• Sunday scouts can wear class B (t-shirt) uniform. Camping T-shirts will be provided to all scouts insha'Allah.

• Wear close toed shoes with a sturdy bottom, preferably hiking shoes.

• Considering bringing an extra change of clothes, just in case.

Shopping/Packing List

• Water

  • Re-usable water bottle

  • 1 gallon of water per person

• Eating 

  • Bring your own mess kit / reusable utensils including cup, spoon, knife, fork, plate, bowl, etc.

  • We will not be providing any plastic/disposable plates.

  • Bring your own snacks.

• Camping gear

  • Tent for your family

    • Tarp for under the tent

    • Pegs to nail down the tarp

    • Hammer to assist in nailing the pegs down

  • Sleeping bag

    • Mat to go under the sleeping bag

  • Close toed shoes with a sturdy bottom, preferably hiking shoes

  • Power banks

• Outdoors essentials (essential 6)

  • Filled water bottle

  • Small first-aid kit

  • Whistle

  • Flashlight

  • Sun protection (hat or sun screen)

  • Snack (e.g., tail mix)

• Personal hygiene - toothbrush, toothpaste, miswak, soap, towels, etc.

• In case of rain

  • Rain coat

  • Umbrella

• Misc.

  • Bring your own prayer mat

• T-shirts will be handed out to all registed scouts, insha'Allah.

Scoutland Map and Camp Sites

• Scoutland map

• We have camp sites 6, 7, and 8 as well as the Craft Shack A and B.

• Camp sites do not have electricity, so you may want to bring your own power bank.

• No RV parking at the camp sites and there is no hookup for electricity.

• If you want to camp in your car, SUV, or minivan you can park in the parking lot.

• Camp site 6 will have a preference for den leaders, insha'Allah. Camp sites 7 and 8 will be for all other famalies, insha'Allah.

Information on Wildlife

• It is not unusual to see wildlife at Scoutland. Sometimes we see deers, birds, raccons, etc.

• Remember to learn about the wild animals and know how to react when you encounter them. Never feed the wild animals.

• Never keep food in your tent, or leave it out in the open.

• Always pack away food in your car.

Additional Family Members

• The trip is only allowed for registered scouts and immediate family members (siblings and parents/guardians)

  • Any registed scout or adult leader can attend

  • Any immediate family can attend

  • All adults must complete SYT youth protection training

  • Additional siblings over the age of 5 and parents are subject to an additional $15/person to account for food costs
